1970 Jaguar E-Type

The iconic E-Type Jaguar is one of the most desirable sports cars of all time. Enzo Ferrari famously declared the E-Type “ The most beautiful car ever made”. Cubby Broccoli, the producer of the James Bond films, sought an E-Type to be Bond’s car, but Jaguar, overwhelmed with orders, turned him down and thus Bond had to settle for the Aston Martin DB5.

The E-Type has lost none of its cachet since the fixed head coupe was introduced on March 16, 1961, Geneva Motor Show, causing an even greater sensation than the XK 120 had thirteen years earlier. In 1996 New York’s Museum of Modern Art added one to its exclusive permanent design collection. Earlier this year an E-Type played a starring role as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s “get-away car’ following their spectacular wedding. The E-Type was at the center of the cultural revolution in England that marked the transition from the conservative fifties to the swinging sixties.

The 4.2 Liter Series II is the most desirable of all E-Types because it is the most drivable and reliable of them all. It has significantly more torque than the 3.8; a vastly improved fully synchronized four-speed gearbox; better cooling from dual electric fans, larger radiator, and a larger air intake; and better braking due to a much-improved servo.

This motorcar has been in a private collection since November of 2013. The odometer shows 72,400 miles.

A comprehensive restoration was completed by the previous owner at 67,000 miles that is supported by receipts and contemporaneous notes. The restoration is first class and based on its Jaguar Trust Certificate, the body, engine and gearbox numbers match; and the color (Sable) and interior (Cinnamon) are original.
